TB monitoring and evaluation
Monitoring and evaluation is essential to measure the burden of tuberculosis (TB), as well as to track progress made in fighting the epidemic. Having access to timely and verified data helps policy makers and stakeholders make better-informed decisions to accelerate their efforts towards ending TB.
WHO collects, compiles and validates TB data annually as part of the global TB report. The report provides a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the TB epidemic, as well as progress made at global, regional and country levels. WHO also maintains an online database of country-level TB data from the year 2000 onwards.
WHO supports countries in strengthening their national TB notification systems for measuring and monitoring the number of people who both fall ill with and die of TB. WHO assists countries in conducting a number of surveys to accurately measure the TB burden. These include surveys on national TB prevalence, drug resistance, mortality, and costs faced by TB patients and their households.
