World Patient Safety Day 2025

A two-day stakeholder engagement meeting on patient safety and quality of care began today in Mongar, marking World Patient Safety Day 2025.

24 September 2025
Highlights
Mongar, Bhutan

Leaders and health experts are reviewing progress, challenges, and solutions in key areas—Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Dental Services, Surgery, and Traditional Medicine, including local healer practices—with the shared goal of delivering safer healthcare for all.

In her address, WHO Representative Dr Bhupinder Kaur Aulakh stressed that:

  • Errors in patient care must be opportunities for learning, not punishment.
  • Patient feedback should drive continuous improvement.
  • Tackling NCDs requires a holistic approach, with prevention and health promotion at the core.

The meeting will also present findings from the 2024 Bhutan Healthcare Quality Assurance Report and orient participants on the new 2025 Health Services Rules and Regulations.

Organized by the Health Services Quality Assurance Division (HSQAD), Ministry of Health, with the Department of Clinical Services, NMS, and supported by WHO, the meeting aims to address service gaps and chart a sustainable path toward safer, high-quality healthcare for every Bhutanese.

Together, we commit to safe care for every newborn and every child.
