WHO European Region Member State meeting on Smart Vaccination Certificates

Meeting report, 14 June 2021, Copenhagen, Denmark

Overview

Smart Vaccination Certificates (‎SVCs)‎, a personal, digitally signed attestation of vaccine administration, have recently emerged as a public health tool of interest in many Member States of the WHO European Region looking to gradually ease public health and social measures and restart economic activity as they begin to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of SVCs requires the consideration of a complex mix of technical, legal, governance and equity factors. Governments must therefore be prepared to adjust their use of SVCs in accordance with changing criteria and recommendations as they become available. European Member States met on 14 June 2021 to discuss the situation and share perspectives on the main concerns regarding interoperability and cooperation within the Region.
