The Access to Medicine and Diagnostics Services (AMDS) network is a group of technical partners who work to support countries in their procurement and supply management of commodities for HIV, hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). AMDS’s partners include nongovernmental organizations, faith-based organizations, private companies, United Nations organizations, and other technical agencies operating in developing countries. The AMDS team sits within WHO’s HIV/AIDS Department.
The AMDS network operates as a clearing house, collecting and disseminating strategic information. Prices, availability and regulatory status of relevant medicines, as well as technical information on diagnostics and condoms, are made available to those who need them through the AMDS website and other means of communication. AMDS partners support commodity security for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and STIs, as well as collaboration on supply management in developing countries.
Goals:
- To ensure that supply of quality commodities is never an obstacle to achieving universal access to drugs and diagnostics for HIV, hepatitis and STIs
- To strengthen country capacity to sustain uninterrupted supply of commodities for the prevention, treatment and care of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and STIs
Objectives:
- To maximize country access to key HIV, hepatitis and STI commodities
- To increase collaboration and coordination between partner organizations and national stakeholders on technical support for countries in need (AMDS country action)
- To operate a clearing house for global-level strategic information on HIV, hepatitis and STI commodities
