About us

WHO convenes the Health in the World of Work Network with the goal to increase access to accurate and relevant information and build a community of collaborative sharing on topics related to health emergency preparedness and response and the intersection between public health and the workplace.

The network, comprising different stakeholders from the world of work, routinely convenes for information sessions which build on the outcomes of an initial event in 2020, the World of Work Dialogue.

WHO convenes the Health in the World of Work Network with the goal to increase access to accurate and relevant information and build a community of collaborative sharing on topics related to health emergency preparedness and response and the intersection between public health and the workplace.

The network, comprising different stakeholders from the world of work, meets virtually and participates in information sessions. The information sessions build on the outcomes of an initial event in 2020, the World of Work Dialogue, through which WHO sought to identify and incorporate appropriate lessons learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic into epidemic and pandemic preparedness and response within diverse work sectors.

Background

The COVID-19 pandemic has reiterated the critical need for all people and organizations to have timely access to accurate information to make decisions to protect their health and the health of their communities. Furthermore, the pandemic has demonstrated that in times of crisis people trust leaders within their communities and workplaces for health guidance. Leaders in the world of work include government agencies for health labour and social protection, business leaders, employers and trade unions, associations of occupational health professionals and others.

As the world emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization seeks to work with stakeholders from different sectors to incorporate the lessons learned from COVID-19 into preparedness for future health crises and to achieve common public health objectives; recover from the unprecedented impacts of the protracted crisis; and prepare for future health events, the World Health Organization seeks to work with stakeholders from different sectors in pursuit of common public health objectives.
