The Global Leaders Group (GLG) on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) was established in November 2020 by the Quadripartite organizations (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, United Nations Environment Programme, World Health Organization, and World Organisation for Animal Health) to accelerate political action on AMR, based on a One Health approach. The GLG is chaired by Her Excellency Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados.
In line with the GLG Terms of Reference, the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat on Antimicrobial Resistance is soliciting a call for expressions of interest from serving
or former ministers, senior government officials or leaders at the
regional institutions, foundations, civil society organizations and the
private sector across human health, animal health, agri-food sectors,
climate and the environment, finance, and industry, acting in their
individual capacities; to fill current vacancies.
GLG role
Since
its establishment, the GLG has actively carried out its mission to
advise on and advocate for increased political action in the global
response to AMR, guided by a rolling action plan with
six priority areas and several key performance indicators. The GLG
played a leading role in advocating for the United Nations General
Assembly High-level Meeting on AMR held in September 2024, and in
helping to shape the political declaration
from that meeting. Looking ahead, the GLG will revise its action plan
priorities to support implementation of the political declaration,
including in the key areas of financing, governance, surveillance,
monitoring, and research and development.
Further information about the work of the GLG is available at its website.
Level of commitment
The
GLG formally meets around three times a year, either virtually or in
person. Informal or technical meetings to discuss specific issues are
held virtually on an ad hoc basis. GLG members are expected to
contribute to political and policy discussions and review draft
documents and may be requested to represent the GLG in international
fora. New GLG members will be expected to join the GLG in first
quarter of 2025 for an initial two-year term.
Selection process
Members
will be selected on the basis of their political and/or professional
experience and must have demonstrated knowledge of or commitment to
becoming familiar with AMR in human, animal or plant health, food
production or the environmental sectors. The selection process will take
into consideration gender balance, geographic diversity and
representation from across the One Health spectrum. No honorarium is
paid to GLG members.
