20th Anniversary WHO Lyon Office
The WHO Lyon Office is celebrating its 20th Anniversary! Over the last 20 years, the Lyon Office has helped countries all across the globe to be better prepared for and be able to respond to disease outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics. As an essential part of WHO’s health emergencies programme (WHE), it has helped strengthen country capacities for emergency preparedness, readiness and response and developed strong expertise in three core areas:
- Strengthening Public Health laboratories, in which it has emerged as a Centre of Excellence
- Enabling health security during international travel, cross border movement and while organizing mass gatherings
- Enhancing the skills and knowledge of health professionals engaged in emergency management
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director General and His Excellency Olivier Véran, French Minister of Health, will deliver video remarks at the high-level event. Several dignitaries will also participate, including:
- Dr Mike Ryan, Executive Director, WHO Health Emergencies Programme (WHE)
- Dr Jaouad Mahjour, Assistant Director General, Emergency Preparedness, WHE
- Pr. Jérôme Salomon, French Health Director-General
