Beijing+25 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action on Women.
The Generation Equality Forum (GEF) is a series of global gatherings to celebrate the progress achieved, as well as to chart a course of action to address areas in which challenges remain.
The GEF is co-convened by UN Women along with the Governments of France and Mexico, in close partnership with civil society and youth activists. The objectives of the Forum are:
- to foster discourse, debate and collaboration for a strong, coordinated multi-stakeholder movement for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in all their diversity; and
- to launch a set of five-year, multi-stakeholder led Action Coalitions for the acceleration of progress on gender equality across the world as we head into the Decade of Action on Sustainable Development.
WHO is leading in key areas of the Generation Equality Form, especially the Action Coalition on Gender-Based Violence (co-led by UN Women and WHO) and the Gender Equal Health and Care Workforce Initiative (GEHCWI) with France, Women in Global Health and WHO.
At the Paris Forum, from 30 June to 2 July 2021, WHO will be: leading a High-Level Session on the Action Coalition on Gender-Based Violence; hosting a high level session on the GEHCWI; and launching the full British Medical Journal (BMJ) special series of papers on women’s health and gender equality, with an accompanying podcast series.
