The Joint UN Initiative for the Prevention of Wasting (JUNIPr), funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), is a collaborative effort between WHO, UNICEF, WFP and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) to accelerate the prevention of child wasting.
Child wasting is one of several indicators to measure nutritional imbalance based on low-weight-for-height and is a symptom of acute undernutrition, usually as a consequence of insufficient food intake or a high incidence of infectious diseases.
Speakers in this webinar, including the WHO Director of the Department of Nutrition and Food Safety Dr Luz de Regil, will discuss the progress made to reduce child wasting in recent years, the remaining challenges and the importance of generating evidence on what works to scale up prevention in different contexts. Government representatives from Bangladesh, Mali and Ethiopia will also share their reflections on why this initiative is important in their contexts.
