Launch event: Development and implementation of national action plans for infection prevention and control - a practical guide

23 June 2025 13:00 – 14:30 CET

“From plan to action: Implementing the WHO Global Action Plan and Monitoring Framework on Infection Prevention and Control at the country level”

The Global action plan and monitoring framework for infection prevention and control (IPC) for 2024–2030 (GAPMF) was approved at the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly in 2024. The plan provides clear actions, indicators, and targets to support Member States in improving national- and facility-level IPC actions. It was developed through extensive consultations at global and regional levels with Member States, international experts and across the three levels of the WHO secretariat.

At the event, a practical guide will be launched which provides stepwise guidance for development and implementation of national action plans (NAPs) for IPC, that are aligned with the WHO GAPMF. The guide includes inspirational country stories and directs users towards tools and resources to help countries prioritize, cost, implement, monitor and evaluate their national action plan activities. The guide was developed in collaboration with national leads for IPC, international and national technical experts, IPC leads at the 3 levels of WHO and the WHO Global IPC Network.

It is critical that we secure engagement and practical action now to ensure countries can achieve the targets set out within the WHO GAPMF. The target audiences for the webinar are IPC professionals, IPC focal points, planners and policy makers at facility and national level.

 Objectives of the webinar:

  • To introduce the new practical guide which supports implementation of the WHO GAPMF, and which provides a practical and adaptable approach in supporting countries to develop and implement NAPs for IPC.
  • To promote uptake and use of both the WHO GAPMF and the practical guide by national IPC focal points and health leaders globally.
  • To demonstrate key tools, resources, and inspirational country stories to motivate action.
  • To inspire political and leadership commitment to develop and implement NAPs for IPC that have GAPMF aligned targets.
  • To facilitate networking and peer learning from regional and national experiences.
