A spotlight on Paris - a dialogue with Mayor Anne Hidalgo on promoting health, clean air, and climate resilience

This dialogue aims to inspire mayors and urban leaders around the world by showcasing how bold city-level policies and interventions can promote health, sustainability, and wellbeing. The session will draw key insights from the transformative urban agenda of Mayor Anne Hidalgo, highlighting how cities can empower citizens, reduce health inequalities, and build healthier environments for all.

Goals of the session:

  • Inspire city leaders to pursue ambitious, health-focused urban policies
  • Share practical lessons and strategies adaptable to other city contexts
  • Strengthen the global dialogue on cities as drivers of health equity and sustainability

Agenda:

  • Reducing car dependency & overcoming political, economic, and logistical obstacles to air quality improvement 
  • Developing climate change adaptation measures and boosting biodiversity (green spaces, river Seine, anti-chemical pollutants strategies, One Health approach to urban planning)
  • Fighting against sedentary lifestyles: cycling infrastructure, pedestrianization & inclusive active mobility initiatives
  • Reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases as well as infectious diseases in a holistic evidence-based approach to health promotion that takes into account social determinants and inequalities (vaccination, economically accessible healthcare services, sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child protection…)
  • Fostering citizens’ and communities’ participation in public health policy-making processes, and creating healthcare environments that recognize people’s experiential skills as complementary to medical and healthcare professionals’ expertise
  • Lessons of interest for other cities around the world
