Call for Papers: Health Policy and Systems Research for Rehabilitation

The Bulletin of the World Health Organization will publish a theme issue on advancing rehabilitation through health policy and systems research. This theme issue will contain a collection of peer-reviewed papers that focus on rehabilitation provision in low- and middle-income countries.

Eligibility

Papers may focus on the following:

  • Strategies and service provision models
  • Health financing for rehabilitation
  • Integrating rehabilitation into primary care
  • Approaches to community mobilization for increasing the demand for rehabilitation
  • Models for increasing service delivery by strengthening the workforce

Deadline for submissions: 28 February 2022.

Key Messages:

  • Access to rehabilitation is a human right and is included in the universal health coverage target of the sustainable development goals as an essential service.
  • There are high needs for rehabilitation with 2.4 billion people globally with health conditions that benefit from rehabilitation.
  • There are also high unmet needs for rehabilitation with some low- and middle-income countries reporting that less than 50% of the those that require rehabilitation having access to rehabilitation.
  • Health systems need to be strengthened to provide quality rehabilitation that meets these needs for rehabilitation.
  • Political commitment is essential to mobilise resources for rehabilitation.
  • Health policy and systems research can generate evidence for informing policy and practice decisions to increase the political commitment required to strengthen health systems to provide rehabilitation.
