UN Multi-stakeholder Hearing on TB
Just 15 days to go: 7 April deadline
The Office of the President of the General Assembly has announced 7 April as the deadline for registration to join the Multi-stakeholder Hearings on Tuberculosis/ Universal Health Care (UHC)/ Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response that will be held on 8-9 May 2023 at the United Nations in New York. The Hearings will provide an opportunity for all relevant stakeholders to contribute to the ongoing preparatory process for the High-Level Meetings, with a focus on the current state of efforts and top needs to accelerate response.
Please urgently register before the deadline – midnight EST (New York time) 7 April 2023.

UN Missions Briefing on ending TB, in the lead up to the 2023 UN High-Level Meeting on TB
On 20 March, a special Mission Briefing, was co-hosted by the Permanent Missions to the UN of Poland and Uzbekistan, along with the World Health Organization (WHO), in the lead-up to the 2023 UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting (UNHLM) on TB. Representatives from over 50 Permanent Missions to the UN joined the briefing.
The briefing was opened by the Ambassadors of Poland and Uzbekistan: H.E. Amb. Mr. Krzysztof Szczerski and H.E. Amb. Mr. Bakhtiyor Ibragimov, who are the co-facilitators of the UNHLM on TB. Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO's Global Tuberculosis Programme, shared the latest information on the status of the TB epidemic and response, progress made towards reaching targets outlined in the political declaration of the 2018 UNHLM on TB, and its implications for countries. She provided an overview of the content in the Secretary-General’s planned progress report requested by Member States in the modalities resolution of the UNHLM on TB.
The meeting was moderated by WHO UN Office Director Dr Werner Obermeyer. The briefing was organized to help inform the deliberations by Permanent Missions in preparation for the 2023 UNHLM in September.
On the sidelines of the UN Missions Briefing, Dr Kasaeva and the WHO team met with H.E. László Szőke, Chef de Cabinet, and his adviser in the Office of the President of the General Assembly, to discuss ongoing preparations and priorities for the UNHLM on TB.

In the lead up to World TB Day, Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director and Ms Hannah Monica Dias, Cross-Cutting Lead, of WHO's Global Tuberculosis Programme along with Prof Madhukar Pai, Associate Director of McGill International TB Centre and Canada Research Chair in Epidemiology & Global Health, co authored a commentary in the Lancet on fast-tracking progress to End TB, emphasizing high-level opportunities for investment and action.
