Specialized training programs are to be run for Philippine health workers on how to detect and treat cases of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and prevent the spread of the disease in the Philippines. The aim is to increase the capacity of the National Health system to respond to an imported case of EVD in the Philippines.

The training has been designed by the Department of Health and the World Health Organization of the Philippines and is being jointly managed by the two organizations. Expert trainers have been recruited from within the Philippines and overseas.

Dr. Julie Hall, WHO Representative for the Philippines said, “WHO Philippines is delighted to be working with the Department of Health to provide training on the detection and treatment of EVD and on how to prevent its spread here in the Philippines. The health workers trained will be essential for Philippine efforts to protect the country from the potential threat of the disease.”

Dr. Hall explained the role of the WHO in the Philippines, “Our primary role is to support the Department of Health to strengthen expertise and ensure sufficient capacity here in the Philippines to detect and prevent the spread of EVD. These training programs will help deliver on these objectives.”
