WAAW 2020 Country Activites

 

LIST OF ACTIVITIES IN SEAR MEMBER STATES

BANGLADESH
  • In collaboration with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Directorate General of Health Services, Communicable Disease Control unit (MOHFW/DGHS/CDC), a series of events aiming to raise community awareness on AMR among the general public are being coordinated through Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers (UHFPOs). Key messages are prepared centrally and shared with UHFPOs to adapt and deliver according to their target audience. 
  • Posters will be distributed to approximately 5500 facilities throughout the country via courier service for display in public areas. The printing and dispatch are financially supported by USAID funded MTAPS program. 
  • The Bangladesh National Drug Formulary (BDNF) includes the WHO Access, Watch, and Reserve (AWaRe) classification of antimicrobials and will be distributed to health managers throughout the country to promote rational prescribing of antimicrobials. 
  • In collaboration with FAO, Department of Livestock Services and Bangladesh Poultry Industry Central Council (BPICC), an advocacy workshop is planned on 21 November 2020.

 

BHUTAN

  • Panel Discussion (focusing on the misuse of antibiotics for COVID treatment) on the National Television BBS
  • AMR video airing on BBS
  • Printing of IEC materials and presentation at Veterinary sector
  • Publishing AMR message by Hon'ble Minister of Health on print media and MoH social media handles

 

DPRK

  • Broadcasting on AMR in TV programme
  • Production and dissemination of IEC materials 
  • Workshop for health workers on rational use of antibiotics, patient safety and IPC
  • IEC campaigns in hospitals on AMR messages, hand hygiene and IPC precautions

 

INDIA

  • Collaboration and support to Delhi Govt., Delhi Society for Prudent and Rational Use of Drugs (DSPRUD) and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)
    • Joint online campaign – Antimicrobial Awareness Campaign in Delhi School Children
  • Technical collaboration with Medical Student Association of India
    • Campaign to spread awareness about AMR
  • Collaboration with IMTECH Chandigarh (CSIR institution. Mistry of Science and Technology)
    • AMR game – developed by a senior scientist in collaboration with French researchers – for 11-17-year-old children – with WHO suggestions and inputs
    • Launch planned by DG-CSIR and WR, later this month
  • Engagement with International Veterinary Students Association (IVSA), Pookode chapter 
    • Panel discussion on One Health AMR, 13-14 November
  • Engagement with Centre for Science and Environment

  • WHO Representative to India has established the WCO India Taskforce on Antimicrobial Resistance (to facilitate sharing of AMR activities by all teams; support the development and contribute to AMR dashboard of WCO India; and synergize AMR activities across teams and with other UN agencies, donors and partners

MYANMAR

  • Collaboration with Ministry of Health and Sports to commemorate WAAW 2020 in the context of COVID-19, promoting media engagement, reaching the community through social media, targeting COVID-19 cases and people in quarantine centers.  
    • Creation and broadcasting of local AMR music video by famous composer and celebrity singers through social medias and TV channels. 
    • Creation and dissemination of local AMR poster and pamphlets to States and Regions for billboard installations and though social medias
    • Boosting of AMR posts to reach the public more (will be boosted estimated one million official Facebook users);
    • Online AMR poster and painting contest will be conducted and will provide prizes for winners.
    • Development, printing and dissemination of 2021 AMR diary books, AMR booklets, towels and hand sanitizers. These materials will be distributed to States and Regions, concerned stakeholders and concerned departments for One Health
    • AMR quiz session will be conducted in States and Regional COVID19 quarantine centers and will give presents for participation in quiz sessions.
    • During WAAW, National Coordinating Center for AMR meeting with five technical working group members of awareness, surveillance, infection prevention and control, optimizing antimicrobial usage and research and innovation will be conducted through virtual platform
    • During WAAW, National Multisectoral Steering Committee meeting for AMR chaired by His Excellency Union Minister, MoHS will also be conducted via virtual platform. 

 

NEPAL 

  • Nov 18: Publish Message from honorable PM and sectoral ministers (combined)
  • Nov 19: Sensitization workshop: Panel group discussion of “One Health” Key actors (Non-government): AMR related global, regional and national response (what is being done and what needs to do), the role of different stakeholders in curbing AMR.
  • Nov 20: Broadcasting panel discussion in TV representing different “One Health” actors from government high-level officials; discussion on policy gap, progress and challenges of AMR program installation and implementation, ways of maximizing inter-sectoral communication, collaboration, and coordination, and the way forward to strengthen the "One Health" approach in combatting AMR as a national response 
  • Nov 18-24: Academic institution engagement: Drawing competition of the students from different colleges
  • Nov 18-24: hashtag campaign for showcasing AMR related activities
  • Nov 18-24: Broadcasting of jingles through FM radio and television
  • Nov 18-24: Production and distribution of posters which will be displayed in different offices of "One Health"
  • FHI to conduct data sharing workshop of human and animal health and FAO is working with DLS for WAAW celebration.
  • Virtual session (tentative date 18th Nov 2020; 1330-1500 hours) by NPHL with subnational stakeholders with updates on the AMR related activities done to date. 
  • WHO along with FHI360 will be engaged and supporting NPHL in the WAAW 2020 activities.   
SRI LANKA
  • Collaboration with the Ministry of Health to disseminate a joint online campaign including the following materials 
    • An original animation in all three local languages 
    • Video clips from health experts offering advice and updates 
    • Original education videos 
  • Adaptation and localization of WHO-HQ resources 
    • Translation and re-design to fit the local context of AMR/WAAW posters/social media stills  
    • Translation of Science in 5 videos on antibiotics and COVID-19 
  • Engagement with communities 
    • Quizzes on social media platforms and messaging apps to reinforce knowledge 
  • Press conference on COVID 19 cluster situation

 

THAILAND

in order to support the implementation of NSP-AMR’s Roadmap 2020-2021 and the GAP-AMR, Thailand’s WAAW will be held under the theme ‘Antimicrobials: Handle with care’ by engaging government sector, private sector, academics and civil society networks under the One Health approach. 
Thailand’s WAAW will be held during 16-24 November 2020. The opening session will be on 16th November 2020 and a series of WAAW activities will be run throughout the week. These have been organized along three platforms:

 

Platform 1: Toward a new normal for appropriate regulation of antimicrobial distribution

  • Panel discussions on:
    • Situations and Regulation on Antimicrobial Distribution: Past, Present and Future
    • Toward a New Normal: Adapting to Regulatory Changes in Antimicrobial Distribution 

Platform 2: Raising awareness of AMR and understanding AMU in animals

  • Drawing and writing contest on “When I use antibiotics in my pets”
  • Poster exhibitions on “Prudent use of antimicrobials in animals”
  • Panel discussion on “How to use antibiotics in pets with minimized AMR development and spread” 

Platform 3: Promoting AMR awareness in the general public and health professionals

  • Educational activity on health and AMR
  • Workshop on Digital Content Creation for Health Communication
  • AMR exhibition at the International care 
  • Launching a series of VDO clips to reduce risky behavior inducing AMR and Promoting the Antibacterial Awareness Week
  • Interviewing the manager of Drug System Monitoring and Development Centre on “AMR in environment” 
  • AMR discussion in the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand
  • Kick-off “AMR Public Engagement in Thailand (Stakeholder
  • Kickoff “Antimicrobial stewardship” in hospital network
  • Public communication on AMR twice week via the Consumer Foundation webpage & Analysis of antibiotic residues in chicken and red Tilapia fish
Co-hosts for the different actiities will be key ministries, academic councils, regualtiry agencies, research council and agencies, university networks, professional societies and associations, development partners and UN agencies including FAO, OIE, UNEP and WHO, among others. WHO Thailand will participate at various Platform events and will also be making poster presentations.

 

TIMOR LESTE

  • A seminar to professionals and government officers on antimicrobial resistance of both agriculture and health sectors on 19 Nov. 
  • A meeting of the AMR multisectoral committee to review the implementation of AMR National Action Plan, and discuss way forward.
  • IEC and social media campaign on rational antimicrobial use
