Global Coordination and Partnership on AMR
The Department of Global Coordination and Partnership on Antimicrobial Resistance leads and coordinates the global One Health multisectoral response to antimicrobial resistance and contributes towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Multisectoral Coordination & Collaboration (MCC) Unit

The Quadripartite Joint Secretariat (QJS) consolidates the cooperation between Quadripartite namely the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). By leveraging the core mandates of these organizations, the Secretariat supports a unified global response to AMR across the One Health spectrum through the promotion of shared vision, global advocacy, political engagement, as well as the provision of Secretariat services to the global AMR governance structures. QJS is hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) within the Global Coordination and Partnership (GCP) Department of the AMR Division, and operates via two technical Units namely Governance and Strategic Initiatives Unit; and the Multisectoral Coordination & Collaboration Unit (MCC) Unit.

The Multisectoral Coordination & Collaboration Unit (MCC) is arm of the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat’s that coordinates and manages the day-to-day business of the Quadripartite collaboration in line with the Strategic Framework for Collaboration on AMR. The unit coordinates the implementation and monitoring of the QJS workplans and plays a pivotal role in ensuring Quadripartite collaboration with other multilateral organizations such as the World Bank, UNICEF and UNDP in the global response to antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

The MCC’s work is organized into two main functional areas:

  • Quadripartite Coordination: This area focuses on the daily operations of the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat, ensuring the successful implementation of the Quadripartite workplans. It also hosts the secretariat and manages the coordination of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund on AMR (AMR-MPTF), a time-limited funding mechanism designed to support the activities of the Quadripartite.
  • UN & Stakeholder Coordination: This area acts as nexus for driving coordinated global action across the UN system, other multilateral organizations, and global stakeholders. Its goal is to align efforts and resources, thereby unlocking the potential of various partners in the global response to AMR.
