Ageing and health monitoring

United Nation's (UN) Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) and Global Strategy and Action Plan on Ageing and Health (2016-2020) emphasis that improving data and measurement are crucial for implementing and monitoring four actions required to promote healthy ageing. These actions seek to change how we think, feel and act towards age and ageing, facilitate the ability of older people to participate in and contribute to their communities and society, deliver integrated care and primary health services that are responsive to the needs of the individual and provide access to long-term care for those older people who need it.

Various initiatives are underway to elevate the importance of measurement and data, these include:

  1. launch of ageing data portal “ one-stop-shop” to data and analysis at global, regional and country levels on ageing and health statistics for monitoring public health actions,
  2. providing technical support for epidemiological and monitoring activities related to ageing and
  3. setting minimum standard for age-disaggregation of ageing-related indicators.
