Adolescent and Young Adult Health
The Adolescent and Young Adult Health Unit (AYH) leads and coordinates WHO-wide efforts to improve the health and well-being of adolescents and young adults.

Adolescent and young adult health research

The AYH unit undertakes the following functions:

  •  Leads and collaborates on research in adolescent health.
  • Sets global research priorities for AYH.
  • Sets standards for ethical research in AYH research, including engagement of young people
  • Convenes research networks for adolescent and school health
  • Promotes innovations in research
  • Builds AYH research capacity

More specifically, the AYH unit leads and contributes to multi-country primary and secondary research. By undertaking high quality research, we support countries to ensure evidence-based policies and strategies can be implemented to achieve universal access to high quality health services for adolescents and young adults, build the evidence base for school health and increase coverage and quality of effective interventions for this group. We contribute to global research networks to advance the evidence base for AYH globally.
