In adults presenting with acute tonic clonic seizures where intravenous access is available, either intravenous lorazepam or diazepam can be administered to terminate the seizure. Intravenous lorazepam (if available) may be preferred over intravenous diazepam because of slightly superior benefit-risk profile.
