WHO Thailand and Ministry of Public Health signed a pledge on preventing and responding to sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEAH)

On 25 November 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) Thailand and the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) jointly demonstrated their commitment to “Zero Tolerance for Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH)” by signing a pledge. The opening ceremony of the Joint Advocacy Event coincided with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

“WHO and the MOPH have a common goal of addressing sexual misconduct and implementing concrete measures to ensure that we “Do No Harm” to the people we are entrusted to serve and the people we work with” said Dr. Jos Vandelaer, WHO Representative to Thailand.

“The Ministry of Public Health gives precedence to the prevention and solution to the problem of sexual harassment at work, which is considered an important problem that affects the confidence and faith of the people” said Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health

The event showcased the commitment of WHO and MOPH personnel for not accepting, ignoring, or tolerating sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, and all forms of sexual harassment. The advocacy campaign will reinforce the implementation of the Cabinet Resolution on 21 April 2022 and the Convention of the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The MOPH has formulated the policy and measures for SEAH since 2017; and has expressed its continued commitment to strengthen mechanism and processes for a respectful and safe workplace.
