Module 5: Engaging the health community

As frontline workers who have frequent contact with community members, healthcare professionals are uniquely positioned to encourage adoption of clean household energy. During interactions with patients, healthcare providers can encourage the use of clean household energy as a way to prevent disease. They can also recognize symptoms of household air pollution exposure and encourage transitions to clean household energy to facilitate treatment.

This module is designed to empower the health sector to tackle household air pollution. It provides concrete resources to assist the health sector to promote clean household energy solutions. The module provides health professionals with the tools to assess household energy as a risk factor for disease and to ‘prescribe’ clean household energy solutions.  It contains resources for the health sector to effectively communicate the health risks from household energy use, especially to those working in other sectors.
