WHO is committed to saving lives and protecting health in times of crisis – whether caused by outbreaks, conflicts or disasters.

The WHO Health Emergencies Programme harnesses the expertise and resources of the three levels of WHO – country offices, regional offices and headquarters – to help Member States build the capacities required to prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from all hazards that create health emergencies. When national capacities are overwhelmed, WHO works alongside ministries of health and partners to lead and coordinate the international health response.

Strengthening health security in Indonesia

The WHO Health Emergencies Programme partners with the Government of Indonesia to build robust defenses against public health threats. WHO strengthens Indonesia’s ability to detect, assess and respond to infectious diseases, zoonoses, disasters and emerging health risks through targeted interventions that deliver measurable results.

Our strategic approach centers on three key areas: activating national contingency plans for rapid emergency response, upgrading surveillance systems to catch threats early, and enhancing Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC) capabilities for real-time coordination. We invest in and support the development of laboratory networks, skilled health workforces, and multisectoral partnerships that deliver more efficient response mechanisms, alongside ongoing capacity building.

These investments in health emergency preparedness, response and recovery capacities ensure Indonesia can identify health threats faster, mobilize resources more effectively, and maintain resilient health systems that protect communities from current and future emergencies.
