The report provides a comprehensive analysis of national antimicrobial consumption data, adherence to national essential medicines lists, standard treatment guidelines, and the promotion of rational antimicrobial use. It shows that within the Region, most countries are in the initial stages of establishing national antimicrobial monitoring systems, which are essential to support access to essential medicines while informing action to prevent antimicrobial resistance.

The report presents clear evidence and key messages to guide policy makers, health-care providers and stakeholders in the Region to address the challenges and opportunities inherent in antimicrobial consumption. In Indonesia, it can help inform implementation of the country’s recently launched National Strategy for Controlling Antimicrobial Resistance 2025-2029, which is the first human health sector plan globally to be based on WHO’s people-centred approach.
