Sexually transmitted infections - Technical work
The WHO Department leads the global effort to end the epidemics of HIV, tuberculosis (TB), hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), ensuring that every person has equitable access to highest-quality people-centred scientific evidence and services, regardless of who they are or where they live.

Syphilis Interventions Towards Elimination (SITE)

The Syphilis Interventions Towards Elimination (SITE) model was developed to allow national HIV/STI programs to explore different scenarios to support decisions for the implementation and scale-up of interventions that could lead to the elimination of syphilis as a public health problem by 2030. The tool also provides the cost-per-infection averted and can be customized to local context, considering prevention, screening and treatment interventions or combinations of interventions by population, including contact tracing/partner services.

SITE is a dynamic, compartmental model that simulates adult syphilis transmission. The model was commissioned by WHO and developed in 2019/2020 by Avenir Health. For more information on the model see Avenir Health.

The model has been used in 3 countries.
