Alcohol, Drugs and Addictive Behaviours
The Unit works globally to improve health and well-being of populations by articulating, promoting, supporting and monitoring evidence-informed policies, strategies and interventions to reduce the burden associated with alcohol, drugs and addictive behaviours.

Our work on addictive behaviours (gaming and gambling)

The Unit undertakes a number of technical activities in relation to gaming and gambling which includes:

  • developing and disseminating technical guidance and tools for prevention, identification, diagnosis and management f health conditions due to addictive behaviours, including diagnostic interviews and screening tools for gaming disorder and gambling disorder;
  • facilitating and promoting international collaboration and dialogues in support of the development and implementation of effective strategies and interventions to prevent and reduce public health problems associated with addictive behaviours (gaming and gambling); and,
  • generating, collating and disseminating reliable information on the public health implications of gaming and gambling as well as on policy and program responses.
