Cost-effectiveness Data

The UHC Compendium Cost-Effectiveness data is represented by a comprehensive list of cost-effectiveness ratios generated through the WHO’s Choosing Interventions that are Cost-Effective (CHOICE) programme. This section aligns the estimates of cost-effectiveness produced by WHO-CHOICE with the interventions and actions included in the UHC Compendium. Cost-effectiveness estimates are presented for “bundles” of UHC Compendium actions. This is intended to serve as an entry point to the UHC Compendium for users that wish to use cost-effectiveness data to inform their benefits package selection. The dashboard displays action bundles in ranking order, starting with the most cost-effective action bundle and ending with the least cost-effective one.

Version 1.0 of the dashboard includes indicative cost-effectiveness ratios for over 100 action bundles reported for two geographic regions. This will be expanded over time to cover additional action bundles and to report cost-effectiveness ratios for up to eight country typologies. The user will also eventually be able to obtain contextualized county-specific cost-effectiveness ratios, which will reflect the local burden of disease and local prices.

Below you can view the full UHC Compendium Cost-Effectiveness data. Choose a region to view the cost-effectiveness rations. The table allows you to search across the Compendium database for your area of interest using the search bar. For instance, if you search for “diabetes”, the database will provide all the health actions which have any entries with the word “diabetes” in it. You also can find interventions by health programme or health action bundle filters.

*Please note that the filters and visualizations are interactive. If you search for a term in the search bar, all filters are modified. To see the entire compendium again, use the eraser on the right side of the search bar/filters. You may use multiple filters together.

Under review: Content for a number of interventions and actions is currently being reviewed by WHO subject matter experts or external individuals possessing relevant qualifications and/or experience. The content may be undergoing further revisions or, in some cases, be related to services where WHO guidance has not yet been developed or issued. We anticipate that these entries will be completed in future version updates.

Disclaimer:  WHO does not provide guidelines and reference documents for all potential UHC actions. The content within the Compendium is based on the current guidance from WHO. The intent is to provide an overview of health actions that countries may wish to consider for UHC, for those areas in which WHO currently provides guidance. The fact that an action is listed in the Compendium does not necessarily mean that it is applicable in all settings. Likewise, the fact that an action is not currently included in the Compendium does not mean that it is not a worthwhile investment. The Compendium will be updated over time as WHO guidance evolves.
