Global Price Reporting Mechanism for HIV, hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis and malaria
The Global Price Reporting Mechanism was established in 2005 by the AIDS Medicines and Diagnostics Service, within WHO’s Department of Global HIV, Hepatitis and STI Programmes. It is essentially a database that records international transactions of HIV, hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis and malaria commodities purchased by national programmes in low- and middle-income countries.
The information recorded includes the volume of transactions, prices, international commercial terms, country of destination and procurement dates, among other details. The information can be queried using an end-user interface that enables users to search the database by commodity, country, income group, region and time period. Summary analyses of the antiretroviral prices and their evolution are published regularly in AMDS summary reports. Finally, data up to the level of individual procurement operations can be made available to research groups upon request and approval by AMDS partners.
PSM Toolbox Project
The AMDS team within WHO's HIV/AIDS Department and its partner organizations recently initiated a project to provide a platform for procurement and supply management (PSM) tools. The tools were developed for HIV-related health commodities, including condoms and medicines and diagnostics for HIV/AIDS care.
The aim of this project is twofold:
- to create a database listing available PSM tools for HIV-related health commodities; and
- to provide assistance in selecting PSM tools that are suitable for a particular situation.
Contributors to this project included successful organizations working in this field that have developed PSM tools for HIV-related health commodities. Other contributors included experts in the use of tools in this field, AMDS partners, and organizations that have developed similar tools.
Opportunistic Infection Commodities Database (OIs)
This database provides information on the drugs' generic name, dosage form, treatment line, route and median treatment cost. You may search for a drug by its therapeutic category and the disease it cures, by its manufacturer, or by searching directly for its name.
Drug regulatory status database
The AMDS drug regulatory status database monitors the registration and marketability of antiretroviral, hepatitis and STI drugs in countries. When faced with imminent stock-outs, this information guides countries in finding quick solutions by identifying where country markets are insufficiently competitive for sustained and affordable access to the different drugs.
Active pharmaceutical ingredients of antiretroviral, hepatitis and STI drugs: Sources, quality and prices
WHO surveyed the market of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) for antiretroviral, hepatitis and STI drugs. The information requested from the manufacturers included the drug price, whether the manufacturer produces them, and the regulatory status and pharmacopoeia standard of their products. The analysis of the data collected is available as a publication on the AMDS website, and in raw data form on the API database.
