ARV and diagnostics demand: forecasting market trends

Accurate forecasting of market trends for antiretroviral medicines (ARVs), diagnostics, and active pharmaceutical ingredients for their production is important in enabling manufacturers to plan production.

To develop global level forecasts of demand for ARVs and diagnostics, WHO and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) have created a working group, which produces annual forecasts for anticipated demand. This group shares its draft forecasts with manufacturers during an annual consultation to solicit their feedback.

Since 2005, the AMDS network, in cooperation with UNAIDS, has hosted an annual technical consultation with partners on ARV and diagnostic forecasting, and the needs of appropriate products.
